Why anonymize before you paste
A prompt is a copy you no longer control
Once text is submitted it is stored and processed under the provider's terms. Retention, training use and access by staff depend on your plan and settings; check the provider's data controls rather than assuming.
Most tasks do not need the real names
Summarize this email, translate this contract, rewrite this complaint: the model does the same job with Person 1 and Company A. Only the mapping table needs the originals, and that stays with you.
Third-party data is not yours to share
Client names, colleagues' emails and customer IDs belong to other people. Replacing them keeps you inside your NDA, employment terms and GDPR or KVKK obligations.
Restoring names takes seconds

Names, companies, emails, phone numbers, IDs and IBANs are listed with their replacements. Turn items off, add missed ones, correct a category. Nothing changes until you confirm.

Does ChatGPT keep what I paste?
That depends on your plan and settings. Check the provider's data controls and retention policy. Anonymizing first means the question does not matter as much: what is stored contains no real names.
Will the answer still make sense with placeholders?
Yes. Models handle labels such as Person 1 or Company A well. Choose realistic fake values if the text must read naturally, for example for translations.
How do I get the real names back?
Download the mapping table when you anonymize. Paste the answer and the mapping into the de-anonymizer; the labels are replaced with the original values in your browser.
Is my document uploaded to Unformation?
No. Detection and replacement run in your browser; there are 0 network requests during processing. Only the anonymized text you choose to paste ever leaves your device.
