What stays intact

What we preserve in Text files

The file is edited in place: only the detected text changes. Everything else is written back byte for byte where possible.

  • Line breaks and blank lines

    The structure of the file is kept exactly; only the matched substrings are replaced.

  • Whitespace and indentation

    Tabs and spaces are not normalized. Logs and fixed-width exports stay aligned unless a replacement is longer.

  • Encoding

    Files are read as UTF‑8 and written back as UTF‑8.

  • Everything else

    Anything that is not a detected entity is left untouched. Nothing is reformatted.

Names, numbers and identifiers: three layers

Patterns with checksums (IBAN, national IDs, card numbers, emails, phones, URLs, IPs, dates, plates), your own dictionary of names and terms, and an optional model that runs in your browser for person, company and place names.

Text questions, answered

Can I just paste text instead of uploading a file?

Yes. Use the paste tool: switch to the Text tab above or open the dedicated text page. The result appears in a box you can copy.

Are log files supported?

Yes. Emails, IPs, URLs and IDs in logs are detected by pattern. Names in free-text log lines need the optional model or your dictionary.

Will character encoding change?

The file is read and written as UTF‑8. If your file uses another encoding, convert it first to avoid replaced characters.

Can I use a fixed list of terms to replace?

Yes. Add your own dictionary in the options; every entry is replaced with the label or fake value you choose.

Does the text leave my device?

No. Detection and replacement run in your browser; there are 0 network requests during processing.
