Anonymize an HTML page in your browser

What stays intact
What we preserve in HTML files
The file is edited in place: only the detected text changes. Everything else is written back byte for byte where possible.
Markup and attributes
Tags, IDs, classes, hrefs and data attributes are not modified. Only text nodes are edited.
alt and title attributes
These two attributes carry human-readable text and are scanned like text nodes.
Scripts and styles
Contents of script and style elements are skipped.
Entities and encoding
HTML entities in the source are preserved; replacements are escaped correctly.
What gets detected
Names, numbers and identifiers: three layers
Patterns with checksums (IBAN, national IDs, card numbers, emails, phones, URLs, IPs, dates, plates), your own dictionary of names and terms, and an optional model that runs in your browser for person, company and place names.
- Person names
- Companies and brands
- Places and addresses
- Emails and phone numbers
- National IDs, tax IDs, passports
- IBANs and card numbers
- URLs and IP addresses
- Dates and license plates
Questions
HTML questions, answered
Will links, classes or scripts change?
No. Only text nodes and the alt and title attributes are edited. Everything inside tags stays the same.
Are email addresses in mailto: links replaced?
The visible link text is; the href attribute is not, because attributes other than alt and title are not scanned. Check hrefs before sharing.
Can I anonymize a saved email or web page?
Yes. Save the page as HTML and drop it in. Inline images are not read.
Is the page rendered or executed?
No. The file is parsed as text; scripts never run.
Does the file leave my computer?
No. Parsing and replacement happen in your browser; 0 network requests during processing.
